How It Works

The video clips of teachers interacting and intervening with students are available for use as case studies for professional development, for your own learning, and even to share with other adults who work with and parent children. A local and national planning team tested a model for capturing clips in real classrooms. Currently there are clips from urban 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade classrooms.

With permission from parents and school staff, cameras and microphones were set-up in the classrooms. The teacher wore an earbud microphone that connected her to mental health and education coaches viewing the class on a monitor outside the classroom. Filming took place for two-three days. Much of what you see are the existing excellent practices of these teachers. Some is a result of the coaching relationship that gave the teachers new insights into the students and strategies to try. You will also be led to discuss other strategies that might have worked even better.

It’s exciting to finally have a way to look into the classrooms to learn how educators do such great jobs!
